Where's Daniel Boone?

MotorHome | October 2006

Frankfort Cemetery is professed to have one of the most picturesque views in Kentucky. Daniel Boone's grave monument towers on the lofty cliffs overlooking the Kentucky River and the gleaming dome of the State Capitol. The famous historic pioneer — along with his wife, Rebecca — are said to rest upon this beautiful vista with a view that no traveler should miss.

But are they there?

Boone died in 1820 at his son's home near Defiance, Missouri, and was buried nearby, close to Rebecca's grave. In 1845, their bodies were reportedly exhumed and re-interred in Frankfort Cemetery in Kentucky. Defiance, Missouri, holds to the idea that the wrong bones were dug up — and still lays claim as his final resting place.

So, whichever state you visit, Missouri or Kentucky, you're sure to find Daniel Boone — no bones about it.
