A Show of Hands

MotorHome Magazine | February 2004

Norman Rockwell, Katharine Hepburn and Neil Armstrong are but a few of the well-known people represented in the Adrian E. Flatt Hand Collection in Dallas, Texas. Since I960, Flatt, a prominent hand surgeon, has been taking plaster castings of prominent individuals and immortalizing them in bronze. Prominently displayed in 22 glass cases in the Truett Lobby at Baylor University Medical Center, Flatt's "hands of history" encompass more than 150 castings ranging from Peanuts cartoonist Charles Schulz to Walt Disney. The largest hands on display are those of former wrestler 'Andre the Giant" Roussimoff; when plaster-filled shoeboxes proved too small to take Andre's impressions, Flatt resorted to Stetson hat boxes. Admission to the Flatt Hand Collection is free. For details, call (214) 820-2116.
